The Shins - The Worms Heart - Sony
The Worms Heart is a complete re-work of The Shins critically acclaimed March, 2017 album 'Heartworms'. The album offers new reworked versions of the 'Heartworms' album original tracks, and the sequence is flipped as well. When James Mercer wrote, produced, and recorded the Heartworms album, he had this desire for an alternate version, an opposite version. The album s slow songs would be flipped and re-recorded as fast songs, and vice versa. The reasoning was to showcase the versatility and strength of his songwriting, and the result is The Worm's Heart. This 'flipped' collection is produced by Yuuki Matthews, Jon Sortland, & James Mercer; and is a must for any fan of The Shins.

The Go! Team - SEMICIRCLE

The Go! Team - SEMICIRCLEThe Go! Team - SEMICIRCLEThe Go! Team - SEMICIRCLE - Memphis Industries
Brighton's Go! Team return with their new album SEMICIRCLE on long term label home Memphis Industries. These are dark and difficult times. We don't need some chancer with an acoustic guitar and a series of concerned hashtags to tell us that. What we need is a band to believe in, who stand for something other than naked careerism, who give us a rock to cling to on stormy days. A band who still have faith in the power of pop music to transform the world, who dream in technicolour, who see beauty in the little things, who shun tepid perfection, who rejoice in the mistakes and the chance encounters that lead us somewhere new. Who remind us what it was like to be young and naive and idealistic and in love. Who throw everything into the pot to create music that is joyfully, effervescently alive. Now more than ever, we need The Go! Team. It's no secret that The Go! Team is the brainchild of one man, Brighton-based melody obsessive Ian Parton. But its membership has never been exclusive: at one time or another, The Go! Team has included on its squad-sheet everyone from Deerhoof to Chuck D to a legion of undiscovered Soundcloud singers. Unlike the groups previous album, 2015s The Scene Between which was essentially a solo project, following the dissolution of the previous Go! Team line-up Ian began work on their fifth album SEMICIRCLE with the vital input of current live band players Simone Odaranile (drums), Angela Maki Won-Yin Mak (vocals and guitar) and original Team members Sam Dook (guitar) and Ninja (irrepressible rapping).

Glen Hansard - Between Two Shores

Glen Hansard - Between Two ShoresGlen Hansard - Between Two ShoresGlen Hansard - Between Two Shores - Epitaph
Between Two Shores is the third solo release from acclaimed singer-song writer Glen Hansard. Glen Hansard has built a career, now over 2 decades strong, on struggle. His impassioned songs mostly veer between the exhausting struggle to make it professionally and the numbing struggle to keep the affections of a romantic partner. Pick up any Frames or Swell Season record, or his first two solo releases, 2012’s Rhythm and Repose, and 2015’s Didn’t He Ramble to find him chipping away at those two pillars.

They Might Be Giants - I Like Fun - Idlewild Recordings
They Might Be Giants is back! The Brooklyn originals can't stop and won't stop, with 2018 already destined to be one of their most magnificent and productive years to date. Thirty-five years deep into their epic career, this week will see the release of their brand-new studio album I Like Fun. The fifteen-track album was produced with and mixed by Patrick Dillett (St. Vincent, David Byrne, Mary J. Blige, The National, Donald Fagen) and recorded at Reservoir Studios (the former Skyline Studios where TMBG recorded their platinum album Flood). The lead track; I Left My Body; is a prime slice of the power They Might Be Giants commands. Hyper-melodic, fresh, and ever rocking, They Might Be Giants formidable live lineup enjoys a reputation for delivering one of the best shows around, and this album is a real showcase for that musical energy. I Like Fun jumps with surprises, vitality, and the startling, singular point of view TMBG always delivers. Coinciding with the album's release is the first leg of the band's extensive world tour that kicks off with a fifty-city run across the US. And 2018 will also see the resurrection of TMBG's legendary Dial-A-Song service on streaming sites everywhere, featuring new music all year long!

First Aid Kit - Ruins - Sony
Ruins is the new and eagerly awaited album from Swedish sister duo First Aid Kit. This new album finds First Aid Kit as you've never heard them before: wounded and biting back hard. While Ruins follows the traditions of the classic folk rock sound that First Aid Kit revived via their breakthrough album Stay Gold (2014) and previous releases The Big Black And The Blue (2010) and The Lion's Roar (2012), the difference is that this time they've lived, and the results are intense. Tracks such as "Rebel Heart" the album's opener documents a love doomed from the start. "It's A Shame" the lead single is a plea to live in the moment because everyone disposes of each other eventually. On "Postcard" and To Live A Life," you feel the breath-stealing weight of despair when a shattered love leaves you bereft of hope. "Fireworks" introverts the blame with self-loathing. In many ways, First Aid Kit's largest asset is their biggest problem. Their voices are so damn pretty. The [previous] records were always so perfect," says Johanna Söderberg. On Ruins, the duo didn't want it to feel perfect. They wanted it to feel rough and wrenching. Johanna comments further, "Given the material, the lyrics had to be the focus. These sentiments didn't need to be dressed up. They needed to be naked." Ruins was made with one target in mind: make it sound more real a result the Söderberg sisters clearly achieved.

Ron Gallo - Really Nice Guys EP

Ron Gallo - Really Nice Guys EPRon Gallo - Really Nice Guys EPRon Gallo - Really Nice Guys EP - New West Records
Really Nice Guys is a concept EP by Thyme Magazine’s “Man Of The Year,” Ron Gallo. The EP is another thought provoking and inspired installment, extending an already prolific calendar year by Gallo which saw the release of the critically acclaimed full length album Heavy Meta as well as the 7” singles, “Temporary Slave” and “Sorry Not Everybody Is You.” Really Nice Guys finds Gallo exploring new sonic frontiers and instrumentation in the form of what might be called a conceptual art piece. Whatever you call it is wholly original and Gallo continues to melt faces and free minds.

Over the past two decades, a strong sense of place has shaped the music of Calexico, infusing their albums with a stylistic unpredictability and richness of texture. While 2015’s Edge of the Sun brought the Tucson-bred band to the Mexico City borough of Coyoacán, their new full-length The Thread That Keeps Us mostly came to life in a house studio near the Northern California coast nicknamed “The Phantom Ship” by CALEXICO vocalist/guitarist Joey Burns and drummer John Convertino.

Adopted and not knowing his history or connection to his Welsh roots, many of these songs were influenced by the complex feelings that come from unknown lineage.

ASHEVILLE --  Riding the wave of their critically acclaimed 2015 album, Lost at Last, Jon Stickley Trio independently releases their 3rd full length album, Maybe Believe, on May 12, 2017. Jon Stickley Trio combines Jon Stickley’s rapid-fire flatpicking guitar with the sultry and wild, yet refined, melodies of Lyndsay Pruett on violin set over the deep groove of Patrick Armitage on drums.

“The latest record from the Jon Stickley Trio flexes new and strong muscles, utilizing more progressive structures and deeper pockets than ever before,” says Producer Dave King (Of The Bad Plus). “All the while, the group retains its place as a modern-thinking acoustic ensemble with one foot in tradition and the other in a bluegrass honored future that allows for the avant garde, punk, and be bop to mix in freely and tastefully.”

Record Store Day 2017

Record Store Day 2017

“I’m thankful that some people still focus on albums and physical copies,” said Steve Martin Founder of Ignition Music Garage. “The story of vinyl records is one of the few bright spots in a rapidly changing music business. I believe we need to make a statement that artists, record labels, producers, engineers, concert venues and record stores are valuable contributors to the quality of our lives. Something powerful happens when we listen in the air, together.”

(from RSD Website) This is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store—the staff, the customers, and the artists—to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances.

Ignition will once again be featuring; Food, Goshen Brewing Beer, Limited Edition Vinyl and Live music. Last year over 500 people gathered downtown to celebrate Record Store Day with us. We have hundreds of RSD titles ordered as well as special record label deals. “It is hard to believe that the vinyl renaissance led by Record Store Day is only 10 years old, we’re proud to have been here for the majority of them.”

“This year we are encouraging people to bring their treasured collectors’ albums to spin on 91.1 The Globe during their live broadcast. There are some very significant recordings that only surfaced for Record Store Days past, it’s time to get them out and give them a spin with all your friends.”

We decided to close the day with a national touring act on our stage and are honored to have two; Penny & Sparrow and Lowland Hum. Penny & Sparrow are on Single Lock / Thirty Tigers. John Paul White (Civil Wars) and Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes) produced their record, “Let a Lover Drown You”.

Check out the single “Finery” to hear their finely meshed voices over a great lyric.

Record Store Day - The Organization behind the magic day.

Record Store Day - The Organization behind the magic day.

Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1400 independently owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally. The first Record Store Day took place on April 19, 2008. Today there are Record Store Day participating stores on every continent except Antarctica.

This is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store—the staff, the customers, and the artists—to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day. Festivities include performances, cook-outs, body painting, meet & greets with artists, parades, DJs spinning records,  and on and on. In 2008 a small list of titles was released on Record Store Day and that list has grown to include artists and labels both large and small, in every genre and price point. In 2015, 60% of the Record Store Day Official Release List came from independent labels and distributors. The list continues to include a wide range of artists, covering the diverse taste of record stores and their customers.

On the first Record Store Day, Metallica spent hours at Rasputin Music in San Francisco meeting their fans and now each year hundreds of artists, internationally famous and from the block, flock to record stores around the world for performances, signings, meet and greets and to fill their own shopping bags with music. In 2009, Jesse "Boots Electric" Hughes (Eagles of Death Metal) declared himself the "Record Store Day Ambassador" as a way of shouting out how important the stores were to artists and since then Joshua Homme (Eagles of Death Metal, Them Crooked Vultures, Queens of the Stone Age), Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, Jack White, Chuck D and Dave Grohl have worn the ceremonial sash. For 2016, that sash is based to Metallica, as a way to officially mark their involvement with Record Store Day and support of independent record stores.

Throughout its nine years, cities across the United States, including New York City, Los Angeles, Boise, Charleston and Las Vegas have declared Record Store Day an official holiday. In 2013, Co-Founder Michael Kurtz was made a Chevalier of the Ordre Des Arts et Des Letters in France, honoring Record Store Day's contribution to the cultural and artistic life of the French people. That same year, the organizers of Record Store Day accepted the Independent Spirit Award from NARM (now the Music Biz Association). In 2015, Record Store Day was named the Marketplace Ally of the Year by A2IM, an organization of independent music labels.

While there’s only one Record Store Day a year, the organization works with both independent and and major labels throughout the year to create contests, special releases and promotions in order to spotlight the benefits of supporting these independent, locally owned stores with music purchases throughout the year.   In 2010, Record Store Day coodinated its first Black Friday event, which gives record stores exclusive releases as part of the attempt to redirect the focus of the biggest shopping day of the year to the desirable, special things to be found at local stores.

Record Store Day is currently managed by Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton, in coordination with Michael Bunnell and Eric Levin. Folks wanting to contact Record Store Day are encouraged to email us at information@recordstoreday.com

Record Store Day APR 22 10:00 AM

Record Store Day APR 22 10:00 AM

A message from the folks at Record Store Day   RSD 17 Releases

Ten years ago, we celebrated the first Record Store Day and since then we've consistently tried to keep our promotion of your stores fresh and give you, customers and the press new things to talk about. Our Black Friday event, special single/coupon promotions year-round, Vinyl Tuesday and Indie Exclusive Color Vinyl are all examples of those things and as a way to mark our tenth anniversary, we're launching the Record Store Day Vinyl Club.

Vinyl subscription services abound these days, and in some ways, that's a great thing: the more invested in physical formats people are, the more they'll look to you as they fill out their collections. But subscription services cut record stores out completely. Our Record Store Day Vinyl Club does not. The releases we put out branded as Record Store Day Vinyl Club will be limited edition (most pressed to order!) and will only be available at your stores at regular intervals throughout the year.  We are working now with artists, managers and labels to choose titles for the Club. These may be special reissues (of classic albums and in some cases limited edition RSD titles), newly created compilations or releases, EPs, full lengths, double albums or box sets. The content will always be curated and approved by a panel of record stores and RSD Vinyl Club titles will be solicited to RSD stores only. These will cover all genres, and you'll have the opportunity to bring in which ever titles you think will work for your stores and customers. (Full disclosure: RSD will also sell a very small number of these titles, and these titles only--not regular Record Store Day or Black Friday titles--on our website, but always at a higher price (plus shipping) than your pricing will be. We are not changing our mission of driving customers into your stores.)

We know what our first three Record Store Day Vinyl Club releases will be:

RSD Vinyl Club Release #1
FOO FIGHTERS Songs From The Laundry Room  3/31/17
This four song 10" was released for Record Store Day 2015. A very limited number will be released as the first RSD Vinyl Club with a street date of 3/31.

RSD Vinyl Club Release #2
TELEVISION Live At The Old Waldorf  Street Date TBD
This double LP was released for RSD 2011 on white vinyl. The Record Store Day Vinyl Club release will be a double black vinyl set. This will be solicited by both Think Indie and Alliance shortly.

RSD Vinyl Club Release #3
THE DOORS  When You're Strange Soundtrack
The soundtrack to this film was released on CD in 2010 and has never been released on vinyl. The RSD Vinyl Club release will be a double black 140g vinyl set. The Record Store Day Vinyl Club release will be a double black vinyl set. This will be solicited by both Think Indie and Alliance shortly.
