New Release Round-Up 05-19-17
WAVVES - You're Welcome - Ghost Ramp
Via Ghostramp, Williams isn't just putting out Wavves' new record, he's signing other local garage bands, funding his tours, schooling DIY artists in how to create and distribute merchandise in a way that supports your career and provides future security where nobody else can. As for Warners, that cash advance helped pay for this store. The rest came from the money Wavves made off merch during 2016's Summer Is Forever II Tour with Best Coast and Cherry Glazerr. “I thought Ghostramp would be a hobby, doing 7-inches here and there. But now it's a legitimate business,” says Williams. “The thing is I'm not just interested in making music for Wavves. I'm too ADD. Being an entrepreneur, being hands-on isn’t just smart, it’s necessary. Your art is everything you do, every choice you make. I was able to build my own thing, own it and control it all 100%. If I want to do something now I don’t ask anyone. I just fucking do it – that's priceless.” Nathan Williams never went away, but now he's made sure he's here to stay far longer. And for that, girls and boys, You're Welcome.

LINKIN PARK - One More Light - Warner Bros
One More Light is a moment in time. It’s built on personal stories, sweat-stained and reeling from injuries—the product of six voices, each coming clean about their lives and struggles, as if it were the first time. We get an unobstructed view into what makes the band tick as people, fathers, husbands, musicians, and friends.
PAPA ROACH - Crooked Teeth - Eleven Seven Music
The band wrote and recorded the Crooked Teeth album in North Hollywood, Calif., with the help of production team Nicholas “Ras” Furlong and Colin Brittain. Jason Evigan also lent his producing talents to a track on the album called “Born for Greatness.” “The first time we met up with RAS and Colin, they said that Infest was on constant rotation when they were growing up and they wanted to bring back some of that fire,” says Jacoby Shaddix. Adds Furlong, “The whole idea was to take the classic elements of Papa Roach that everyone loved and revamp them into a modern version of the sound through the creative process, and we ended up with a bold, courageous and more adventurous version of Papa Roach.”
MATISYAHU - Undercurrent - Fallen Sparks Rec.
Singer-songwriter Matisyahu has been on a journey inward for more than a decade. The journey has been private and public. The journey has at times been explicitly external, even while being driven by internal change. Now, nearly thirteen years after the release of his first studio record, Matisyahu and his band have done something unmatched in his past repertoire; they have crafted that journey into a musically thematic eight-song-movement.
THE BEATLES - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: Anniversary Edition - Capitol
It was 50 years ago when The Beatles' John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr astonished and delighted the world, ushering in the Summer of Love with Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, a groundbreaking masterwork that became popular music's most universally acclaimed album. The album is newly mixed by Giles Martin and engineer Sam Okell in stereo, sourced directly from the four-track masters at Abbey Road Studios in London, and guided by the original, Beatles-preferred mono mix produced by his father, George Martin. This expanded 2CD package features the new stereo album mix on the first CD and adds a second CD of 18 tracks, including previously unreleased alternate takes of each of the album's 13 songs, newly mixed in stereo and sequenced in the same order as the album. The second CD also includes a new stereo mix and a previously unreleased instrumental take of 'Penny Lane,' and the 2015 stereo mix and two previously unreleased alternate takes of 'Strawberry Fields Forever.' The Anniversary Editions are also available as a Single CD, 2LP and Super Deluxe Edition Box Set.
JUSTIN TOWNES EARLE - Kids In The Street - New West Records
Kids In The Street is the 7th and latest album from American roots troubadour, Justin Townes Earle. After marrying, moving to various corners of the country and continuous touring with both full band and solo, Earle made time to reflect on the past few years and find new clarity. With Kids In The Street, he made a conscious decision to work with a producer for the first time in his now decade-long career. Earle made the trip to Omaha, Nebraska to work with Mike Mogis (First Aid Kit, M.Ward, Connor Oberst) at ARC Studios. Together, they hand picked musicians to create a new sound and environment for the songs that speaks to Justin’s roots, musically and personally. This creative collaboration, paired with Justin’s longtime guitarist Paul Niehaus, has resulted in an album that takes a big step forward. Kids In The Street is scheduled for release on May 26, 2017.
